Yesterday, March 8th, people around the world celebrated International Women’s Day, a day recognizing the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is both a celebration of how far we’ve come and a reminder that the work toward gender equality is still ongoing.

International Women’s Day began in the early 1900s when women organized to advocate for fair wages, safer working conditions, and the right to vote. Over time, the movement expanded across the globe and became a day dedicated not only to honoring women’s accomplishments but also to raising awareness about the barriers that many women still face today.

Each year, the day is guided by a theme that encourages collective action. The 2026 theme, “Give to Gain,” highlights the idea that when we support and invest in women and girls, everyone benefits. Giving can take many forms—mentoring others, sharing knowledge, advocating for equitable opportunities, or amplifying women’s voices and achievements.

Participating in International Women’s Day doesn’t require large events or major initiatives. Small actions can make a meaningful difference. Supporting women-owned businesses, recognizing the women who inspire us, mentoring young people, or simply continuing conversations about equality are all ways to contribute.

International Women’s Day serves as a reminder that progress happens through collective effort. By celebrating women’s achievements while continuing to advocate for equity and opportunity, we help build stronger, more inclusive communities for everyone.
